International Competition — Honorable Mention
Proposal for a Shopping Center at Santa Lucia Beach on the north coast of Camagüey, in Cuba.
A colonial portico with an arch recalls the local architecture. The design is inspired by human events that have attacked man himself and the environment, such as the Chernobyl disaster or the Challenger explosion.The events in Eastern Europe and the collapse of Real Socialism, and the desire for change in Cuba (represented by the typical arch), inspired this proposal in 1992.Although it was an unrealized project, it received the Honorable Mention in the International Architecture Competition made by Young People, Varadero, 1994.
